Employment: After marriage, the couple farmed near Defiance for 3 years, and then started the Locker in Earling, IA. A year later they sold that business and moved to Witchita, KS, where they worked building airplanes for World War II. They relocated again in 1942, moving to Detroit, MI, and did factory work for 17 years. Early in 1960, they moved to a farm near Defiance and farmed there until they sold the farm and moved into Harlan in 1973.

Hobbies/Interests: member, St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Harlan, IA; had been active with the St. Michael’s Guild there. Enjoyed crafts: Catherine collected and polished stones, crocheted hangers, decorated saw blades, and made afghans.
