Employment: after leaving school, he worked for various local farmers; farmed for 6 years after first marriage, and then purchased a trucking company. After the death of his seconds wife, he continued to operation a gas station and tire service. Retired January 2008.
Hobbies/interests: active member, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Jacksonville, IA; in his youth, he enjoyed playing baseball; later coached the Jacksonville cub team for 9 years; liked to golf, bowl, dance, and play cards, especially Jacksonville Pitch. Possessed a great sense of humor.
