Funeral services: Wednesday, March 4, 2009, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Harlan, IA; Pastor Steve Chellew officiated. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, IA.

Survived by: Wife of 40 years, Sally Wheatley of Harlan, IA; daughters, Andrea Jacobsen and her fiancé, Shannon Miller of Walnut, IA, and Megan (spouse, Jake) Fuhs of Shelby, IA; son, Ryan (spouse, Stephanie) Wheatley of Estherville, IA; brother, Donald (spouse, Cindy) Wheatley of Shelby, IA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mark & Priscilla Thraen of Earling, IA; three grandchildren

Predeceased by: Parents, Alfred John and Doris Dorothy (nee Elwood) Wheatley

Education: graduated from AvoHa High School, Avoca, IA, Class of 1964

Marriage: Sally Irene Michaelsen, Nov. 2, 1968, Salem Lutheran Church in rural Correctionville, IA

Employment: employed as a bookkeeper in Omaha, NE, and Sioux City, IA. Early in the 1970s, his talent for floral design emerged; was employed by Flowerland in Sioux City, IA. He moved in 1974 to Fremont, NE, where he was the Design Manager at Green’s Greenhouse. During this time, he competed in contests of floral design and earned a spot on the Nebraska Academy of Floral Design. In November 1977, he moved and opened Flowers By Ron in Harlan, IA, and later, Flowers Unlimited, serving the Harlan community for 28 years. He also worked briefly in Council Bluffs, IA, for Betty’s Flowers & Finishing Touches. In November 2005, Ron’s daughter assumed the family business.

Hobbies/Interests: Member, Immanuel Lutheran Church; Harlan, IA; past member and officer of the Harlan Lion’s Club, the Harlan Chamber of Commerce, and the Nebraska Florist Society and Academy of Floral Designers. Ron loved his yard and he loved flowers. He enjoyed attending his children’s events at school.
