Obituary

Dennis D. Burmeister, 73, of Davenport passed away at Genesis Medical Center – East Campus, Davenport.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 23rd at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home. Those attending are asked to wear a mask and to practice social distancing. Burial will be at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport, or to Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.

Dennis was born on April 9, 1947 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Carol and Hattie (Meyer) Burmeister. He graduated from Bennett High School in 1965. Dennis served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1970. On June 16, 1984, he was united in marriage to Sherry A. Dennhardt at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Prior to his retirement in 2014, he worked for Pioneer Hi-Bred International in Durant, Iowa for 38 years. He was an avid Hawkeye and Atlanta Braves fan, and also a member of the Lowden American Legion and St. Paul Lutheran Church. Dennis will be fondly remembered as a devoted husband and father.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Sherry Burmeister of Davenport; daughter, Rebecca (Mike Russell) Burmeister of Ann Arbor, Michigan; son, Matthew (Eleanor) Burmeister of Peoria, Illinois; sister, Diane (Terry) Osterkamp of Anamosa, Iowa; brothers, Delbert Burmeister of Wheatland, Iowa, Darrell Burmeister of Greenfield, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece, Jamie Burmeister.
