EDWARD TERRILL BAWDEN, third child of Stephen Douglas and Mary Ella Woodward Bawden b 16 November 1874 in Davenport and graduated from Davenport High School. In 1894,he was a insurance adjustor and inspector for Western Adjustment and Inspection Co. in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He became branch manager of the Cincinnati, Ohio office covering 5 states. At age 31, his health failing, he returned to Davenport where he assisted the family in business affairs and as vice-president and director of his father’s Valley Place Investment Company. Edward never married and died in the family home on E. 11th St. 24 April 1924. He attended the Episcopal church.
Richard Ballard who worked in the family Ballard Drug Store on E. 2nd St. in Davenport, recalls Edward as a regular customer purchasing large quantities of morphine tablets, an over-the-counter drug. Richard recalled Edward spent a good deal of time at the police station and was made an honorary Davenport policeman which entitled him to wear a large silver star and carry a nickel-plated revolver.
