STEPHEN DOUGLAS BAWDEN: was born in Cobra, (Santiago suburb), Cuba 13 September 1843, the son of Stephen and Mary Terrill Bawden. He came to Davenport with his family in 1860 when he was 17 yo. He was the cashier for the Davenport National Bank for many years. He was connected with the Union Bank of Davenport later.

He married Mary Ella Woodward 20 May 1869 in Davenport, Scott County, Iowa in a double ceremony in the Woodward family home with Ella’s sister, Carrie and J. B. Phelps. They were the daughters of Benjamin and Elizabeth E. Woodward. Ella was born in Davenport 23 October 1848.

Stephen died in his home, 1315 E. 11th St., Davenport on 1 August 1917. Mary Ella, a life-long member of the Methodist Church died in their home 18 July 1932. The family is buried in Davenport’s Oakdale Memorial Gardens. (SECT 17, LOT 13)
