Photographer for Half Century Called by Death

M. G. MAXWELL, Mount Ayr and Bedford photographer for approximately fifty years, died early Wednesday morning at his home in Bedford where he had been in retirement for the past four years. Mr. MAXWELL had been in failing heath for several years.

He was born in Howard county, Indiana, August 15, 1855, but before he was a year old came with his parents to Iowa where he lived, with the exception of a few years spent in Indiana, until his death. Mr. MAXWELL moved to Mount Ayr in 1883. During his residence in this city he gained wide recognition for his photography and in 1895 was elected first vice-president of the Iowa State Photographers association which office he held for a number of years. More than twenty-five years ago Mr. MAXWELL moved to Bedford where he continued in the photography business until his retirement.

Mr. MAXWELL is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth SCHERER of Marion, Ind., and Mrs. Maude BARTON who lived with her father in Bedford, and a son, Elmer MAXWELL of Sac City.

Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at the Wetmore Funeral Home in Bedford by the Rev. O.H. HALLGRIMSON, pastor of the Baptist church. Interment was in the Rose Hill cemetery at Mount Ayr.
