OBITUARY ~ DAN A. MINNICK
Novmber 11, 1942 ~ April 29, 2018

Dan A. Minnick, son of Lee and Iva (Main) Minnick, was born at home, southwest of Diagonal, Iowa, on November 11, 1942. Dan attended and graduated from Mount Ayr High School with the class of 1963. Dan answered the call of the draft board and entered the US Army on April 22, 1964. He served his country and was honorably discharged on April 21, 1966.

Dan returned to Mount Ayr. On October 18, 1968, he was united in marriage to Mindy Johnson. They were blessed with one daughter, Lori.

Dan worked as a mechanic at Bill’s Garage before embarking on a 26-year career with the local telephone company as a lineman. The telephone company grew and expanded over the years and Dan retired from Iowa Telecom. In addition, Dan was the film projector operator at the Princess Theater for several years. Dan was a past member of the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Posse. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an accomplished wood-worker and made numerous items for family and friends, including but not limited to, furniture, cradles, high chairs and beds. Dan also raised rabbits and fed cattle in earlier years. His favorite activity was following his daughter and granddaughter. Dan will always be Allison’s biggest fan and together with Mindy, they followed her many activities.

Dan passed away on April 29, 2018.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law Richard Johnson; and siblings Victor Lowell, James Edward, Phyllis June, Lellan J (Jack), Lena Ailene, Carolyn Jean, Jesse Alan, and Merritt O.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mindy Minnick of Mount Ayr; daughter, Lori (Jim) Norris and granddaughter, Allison Norris, all of Diagonal; mother-in-law Shirley Johnson of Mount Ayr; sister Geneva Scott of Marceline, Missouri; sisters-in-law Lori Hendricks Minnick of Fortuna, CA and Stevie Sue Johnson of Des Moines, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services were Friday, May 4, 2018 at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa. Officiating the service was Pastor Bill Armstrong. Pianist was Nancy Sackett. Songs were “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace. Active pallbearers were Jim Norris, Raymond Hensley, Mick Still, Bill Sickels, Jack Sickels, and Joshua Waske.

Honorary pallbearers were Frank Pollock, Jerry Wimer, Frank Pollack, Jerry Wimer, RB Davenport, and Dick Still. Military honors were by the Ringgold Post #172 and Iowa Honor Guard Unit.

Dan was laid to rest at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr, Iowa.
