OBITUARY ~ Mary Edith (Lutman) Johnson
February 28, 1892 ~ November 04, 1966

Mary Edith, daughter of Charles and May LUTMAN, was born Feb. 28, 1892, on a farm near Lorimor, Iowa, and passed away Nov. 5, 1966, in the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr, Iowa, at the age of 74 years, eight months and seven days. She had been in failing health for the past year.

She faithfully attended the Valley Church near Arispe, in which vicinity she spent most of her girlhood days. Later, she graduated from a seamstress school in Des Moines and clerked in the general store at Shannon City.

In 1914, she was united in marriage with William JOHNSON. They established their home north of Afton and later moved to the Shannon City and Tingley communities.

A devoted mother of nine children - three daughters and six sons - she was sincerely fond of her 27 beloved grandchildren and 10 great-granddaughters.

Mrs. JOHNSON participated in and enjoyed many community activities and clubs. She appreciated every act of kindness which endeared her to everyone and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She was a member of the Methodist Church of Tingley.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1961; a son, Keith, at the age of four years; her parents; two brothers and a sister.

Left to cherish her memory are her children - Clare, of Shannon City; Lawrence and Dean of Tingley; Cleone THOMPSON, of Mount Ayr; Merrill, of Chicago, Ill; Marvin, of Newton; Marion REYNOLDS, of Afton; and Doris BEEN, of Belmond; her grandchildren; two sisters, Bernice PERRY, of Burlington, and Elsie MOORE, of Riverside, Calif.; other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Nov. 6, from the Methodist Church in Tingley, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Nichols. Music was provided by Mrs. Francis SMITH, organist, and Mr. and Mrs. David ALLEN, vocalists. Casketbearers were Keith Lininger, Ernest Bastow, Gerald Hailey, Harry Skarda, Carl Ford and Ralph Nicholds. Honorary casketbearers were Wm. S. Breckenridge, Vernon Nichols, Ralph Hollibaugh, Allan Aikin, Clarence Weeda and Lloyd Reynolds. Interment was in the Shannon City Cemetery.
