Funeral services for Richard Alvin Abarr were held Oct. 5, 2001, at the United Methodist Church in Clearfield with Rev. Len Garrison officiating.
Music was provided by Patty Parrish and Chantelle Jennett.
Casket bearers were Doug Horton, Paula Horton, Bobby Thurman, Leslie Barr Chandler, Lynn Christensen, Jan Christensen, and Kim Thurman.
Burial was in Clearfield Cemetery. Military Graveside Rites were provided by Woodside Post 97 American Legion. Wilson-
Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Richard Alvin Abarr, son of Ardath and Marietta (Bruner) Abarr, was born Feb. 16, 1931 in Clearfield. He passed away Oct. 1, 2001
at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 15 days.
He graduated from Clearfield High in 1950 and entered the Air Force. While serving in Japan, Dick was united in marriage to Sumiko Kikuchi on July 12, 1957. He retired from the Air Force in 1974, then worked at the Air Force Academy until 1993. After retirement he enjoyed going to the Senior Center to play pool and visit with friends as long as health permitted. Dick and Sumi have
lived in Colorado Springs for the past 30 years. He was a member of the VFW and the United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed coming back and seeing family and all of his nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his wife Sumi; three sisters, Phyllis Wood (husband Paul) of Dallas, Oregon, Joan Freemyer (husband Wes) of Clearfield, and Carol Lee Fisher (husband Ray) of Clearfield, two brothers, Cecil Abarr (wife Lou) of Savannah, Ga., and Larry Abarr and special friend Marilyn of Savannah, Mo.; sister-in-law Connie Abarr of Wiesbaden, Germany; and several nieces and
nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother Robert; brother Jerry; brother-in-law Vernon Horton; and nephew Michael Freemyer.
