Clarence C Ives, son of Grant and Maude Camp Ives, was born June 14, 1889 at Oquawka IL, the eldest of three sons in the Ives family. He passed from this life August 14, 1960 at age 71 years.
When he was twelve years old the family moved to the vicinity of Knowlton IA where he continued his schooling.
On March 11, 1908, he was married to Pearl Butt, and they observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary of that event in 1968, as well as their fifty-first and fifty-second anniversaries.
Three daughters were born to Mr, & Mrs. Ives: Helen Naomi, whose death occured when she was six years of age, and two who died in infancy.
He was a member of the Diagonal methodist church.
He is survived by his wife, by one brother, O.R. Ives of Diagonal and by three nephews, O.R Ives Jr of San Bernadino Ca, Max Ives of West Des Moines IA, and Dick Ives of Miami Fl. His daughters, his parents and a brother, Fred, preceded him in death.
He worked as a barber all of his adult life, owning shops in Van Meter and Diagonal, as well as other Iowa localities. During World War II he worked at the naval Training Station in Ottumwa, and also in Colorado.
In his late teens he was a pitcher for the Knowlton baseball team beginning a career which saw him become one of the best known semi-pro pitchers in the state. At the height of his career he was the property of the Pittsburh Pirates. His intense interest in baseball and other sports continued all of his life.
Funeral services were held from the mMethodist church with interment in Knowlton cemetery
