John H. Yaryan, the youngest of the seven children of John M and Susan Yaryan, was born April 15, 1878 in Grant township, Ringgold Cpounty IA and departed this life July 4, 1960 at the hospital in Boone IA at the age of 82 years; he was the last surviving member of his family.
With his parents, brothers and sisters, he moved to the sandhlls of Nebraska in 1886 being eight years old at the time He returned to Iowa to make his home in Knowlton on January 1, 1900, and on May 8 of that same year was united in marriage with Marcia Butt of the Knowlton community.
Three children were born to the Yaryans, Marie of Des Moines, Ralph, who died in infancy, and Jay Rew of Boone IA. Besides his son and daughter he is survived by a daughter-in-law, Crystal.
The Yaryan home was established in Knowlton where he was a barber, and maintained there until the family moved to Diagonal in 1918, where he continued in business.
Mrs. Yaryan's death occurred in February 1938 and after a time he moved to Creston, where he was married August 1946 to Mrs. Jennie Hackley, whose death occurred in December of that same year.
For the past fifteen years Mr. Yaryan had made his home in Des Moines and at Boone where he remained active, enjoying life until the past few months.
He joined the IOOF lodge in January, 1901, an activity which he kept up for 59 years. He played baseball and had a continuing interest in thsi and other sports all of this life. He had an unusual musical ability, giving generously of his talent, singing, playing in the band and playing his violin in the communities in which he lived. This interest also continued all of his long life and he won many honors taking part in fiddler's contests sponsored by station KFNK in Shenandoah. He was also active in golden age groups in Des Moines
Funeral services were heled from the Methodist church in Diagonal, with interment in Knowlton cemetery.
