John Robert Rush, son of Aaron and Nancy Rush, was born January 8, 1852 near Tompkinsville KY, and died November 25, 1937 at the age of 85 years. When a small child he came with his parents to McDonough County IL. in the year 1866 the family moved to Iowa and settled on a farm south of where Delphos now stand.s In the spring of 1870 they moved back to Illinois but returned to Iowa that same fall.
In 1872 he was united to LaVina Belford. To this union one son, Dennis, was born. To mother passed away when Dennis was nine months of age.
In the year of 1880 John was married to Gemma Warner near Denver MO. Two children were born to this union, a little daughter who passed away in infancy and one son, Sammi. Gemma passed away in 1884.
In 1888 he was married to Sally Warren guthrie. Two children wre born to this union: Martin who died in infancy and one daughter Vina, now Mrs. George Stuck. ths mother passed away in 1907.
He was married again to Nancy Hockett Arnet in 1909. He also had to give up this companion in 1928. He leaves 3 children and 19 grandchildren.
He was converted and joined the Methodist church in his youth and has been a faithful member until the end. He was one of a family of seven boys and seven girls, two of whom died in infancy.
One brother, Jim, and two sisters, Rosetta (Mrs. Frank Jordan) and Ella (Mrs. Tom Bellamy), preceded him in death. Those that remain are Martha Jordan of Des Moines, Ras of Boone, Loretta Jordan, Grant of Bakersfield CA, Emma Elliott, Peter and Isaac Rush and Marcissa Withers all of Mt. Ayr.
