Keller, Gertrude Eulene Roberts -
Gertrude Eulene Roberts was born April 20, 1917 in Columbia, South Carolina to Troy Carl Roberts and Leona Ferrill Roberts.
The oldest of three children, Troy Carl and Matthew Simieon.
At the age of 8 they returned to Weston, Missouri after the death of their father. Gertrude attended school there and college at Northwest Missouri State at Maryville as a bookkeeper.
Her first job was with the REA Electric Cooperative in Platte City, Missouri. On December 6, 1941 she met Ralph Eugene Keller and they were married July 18, 1942. Three children were born to this union, Virginia Louise Keller Moore, Roberta Leona Keller and Carl Benjamin Keller.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers.
Survivors include Ralph, her husband of 55 years and her three children, son-in-law Chester Moore and daughter-in-law Cheryl Hamilton Keller, 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Over the years she helped start the public library in Platte City, Mo. She was active in the Methodist Circle in Clearfield.
She held offices in the American Legion Auxiliary, Iowa Blacksmith Association Auxiliary and was woman of the year for the National Blacksmith Association. She organized and started a girl scout troop in Clearfield and with all of this she raised three children and worked side by side with Ralph in his welding and blacksmith shop as a bookkeeper and small engine repair person.
In the recent past she has been involved with Ralph in Early American craft fairs and traveling to them and also to their 3rd Staff Squadron reunions (war buddies) every year.
After the loss of her leg in 1993, she and Ralph went to reside with Roberta in Council Bluffs, Iowa Gertrude died on January 2, 1998 at Indian Hills Nursing Home in Council Bluffs.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 5, 1998, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Clearfield,
Iowa with the Rev. Alan Rusk officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Earl Gaule and Mrs Danny Kinder.
Casketbearers were Mark Keller, Scott Stogdill, Michael Keller, and Randy Mitchell.
Interment was in the Clearfield Cemetery at Clearfield, Iowa.
Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
