Newton, Monroe Amos -
Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon for Monroe Amos Newton, 86, at the Crew Funeral Home with Rev. H. Ball in charge of the service.

Monroe was born on a farm near Maloy, July 29, 1871. He was the son of Mr and Mrs John Newton and a lifetime resident of Ringgold and Taylor County. As a youth he taught school several years in Ringgold County and later served 25 years on the school board. Aided by brother Jim, he operated family homestead on Platte River until retirement in 1932.

In Oct. 1943 he was married to Cora Peitzmeyer of Clearfield who preceded him in death. Following a series of strokes starting in 1939, he has been confined to his home where he has been cared for by his step daughter, Mrs Nellie Speer. Besides Mrs Speer, he is survived by son and daughter, James of Cedar Rapids and Elizabeth Payne of Storm Lake by his marriage to Julia Tharp in 1915. He also leaves a grandchild, Alan Payne. Burial in Rose Hill cemetery in Blockton.
