OBITUARY ~ MILTON RAY "MILT" STONE
February 15, 1946 ~ September 28, 2011

Milton Ray STONE, son of Lee and Arzelle (SPENCER) STONE, was born February 15, 1946 at Mount Ayr, Iowa. He passed away September 28, 2011 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Milt graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1964. He was a career military serviceman in Vietnam with tours in the Philippines and Taiwan during the Vietnam War. Milt retired as a Master Sergeant after 22 years in the U.S. Air Force. Milt lived in California, later returning to his beloved hometown of Mount Ayr.

Milt loved the Iowa football teams and loved watching college football on TV. He especially enjoyed playing cribbage with his nephews. During his time back home, he loved his connections with the "gang" at Peggy Sue's and made many cherished friends during his evening visits.

He is survived by his brother Philip (Cathy) STONE of Perry, Iowa; two nephews David (Kari) STONE of Naperville, IL and Joseph STONE of Maple Grove, MN; great niece Molly and great-nephews Arne and Samuel; cousins, other relatives and friends.

Milt was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial fund has been established to the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr.

Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2011, at the First Christian Church of Mount Ayr with Rev. Chris CONKLIN officiating. Musicians included Nancy SACKETT, Mary DAVENPORT and Margaret BICKERS.

Honorary pallbearers were David STONE, Joseph STONE, Alan TAYLOR, Barb VAAL, Kay STONE, Karen BENDER, Craig ELLIOTT and Steve SMITH.

Military rites were by Ringgold Post #172.

Milt was laid at rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr.

Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home of Mount Ayr was in charge of arrangements.
