The Accident at Calkins' Lake.

A very sad affair occurred at the Calkins' lake last Saturday afternoon, which resulted in the death to two young men. One was Milo CORNWALL, of Denver, son of W. T. CORNWALL, secretary of the Denver Fire Clay Co. His age was 25 years. He was a graduate of the State School of Mines and the Ann Arbor University. The other was John PETERSON, a young man who was employed by the Denver Fire Clay Duck Club who had leased the lake, to look after the property. His age was 32 years.

Milo CORNWALL had come up from Denver to prepare for the other members of the club, his father among the number, and on Saturday afternoon he and PETERSON rigged up a sail on a row boat and fixed some shooting boxes on the lake; but wind was strong and a sudden gust capsized the little craft and they found themselves in ice cold water.

CORNWALL could swim but PETERSON could not, and the former did all that he could to save his companion; having helped him to the boat, and finding they could not get it right side up because the sail was in the water and the wind was too strong, he lashed PETERSON and himself to one side of the boat. The water was ice cold and after a half hour their struggle ceased.

Herbert CALKINS, son of C. C. CALKINS, who lives near, saw the struggle, but there being no other boat on the lake, was powerless to help. In two house more, the boat and the victims of the disaster had floated near enough for Herbert to wade out and landed them.

The remains were taken to Longmont Saturday evening, those of CORNWALL being shipped to Denver the next morning, his father having come up Saturday night.

Funeral services of John PETERSON were held a the undertaking room of E. G. JONES, conducted by Rev. G. W. POLLOCK, Sunday afternoon and the interment took place at the Longmont cemetery [Denver, Colorado]. The funeral services of Milo CORNWALL took place in Denver today.
