Obituary.

Clinton DeWitt, son of George S. and Mary V. ALLYN, was born in Mount Ayr, Iowa, May 31, 1886, and departed this life March 16, 1949, at his home in Mount Ayr after an illness of several months. With the exception of the time during which he was enrolled at Iowa State College [present-day Iowa State University], Ames, Iowa, his entire life was spent in the home town.

In the spring of 1909, Clint, as he was familiarly known, began working as an abstracter in the ALLYN Brothers' real estaste department of the Mount Ayr Bank. In 1915, he became associated with the SHELDON Real Estate co., which is now known at the Clyde LESAN Company, and at the time of his going, he was entering his fortieth year as an abstracter.

On April 9, 1911, he was united in marriage to Harriet ANDERSON, also a life-long resident of Mount Ayr. Three children, Allan, Annabell and Theda, blessed this home. As father and head of the household, Clint contributed his full share to the happy home life of the family.

At an early age, he affiliated with the Methodist church, and throughout the years he retained his membership with this congregation.

He is survived by his devoted wife and children, Mr. and Mrs. Allan ALLYN, Mr. and Mrs. Craig CARTER, Mr. and Mrs. Harold CRISWELL, and two granddaughters, Harriet Ann and Susan Allyn CRISWELL. Also surviving are two sisters, Miss Madge ALLYN, and Mrs. Chars. KENDALL, and one brother, Earle K. ALLYN. His father, mother and a brother, Clare, preceded him in death.

During the turbulent years of the past decade [Great Depresssion], Clint, always even tempered, dependable and cheerful, proved himself, time and again, a steadying influence. As a husband, father, brother, neighbor and business associate, this good man leaves a heritage of precious memories.
