Grace Wheelen, 88 Final Rites Held February 24

Funeral services for Mrs. Chester A. (Grace) WHEELEN, 88, of Maloy, were held February 24 at the United Methodist Church in Mt. Ayr with the Rev. Jerrold SWINTON officiating. Mrs. Wheelen died February 22, 1973, in Ringgold County Hospital. Interment was at the Platteville Cemetery.

Grace Estella WHEELEN, daughter of Mary Ellen (SKINNER) and Elijah [Keasey] HARSH, was born March 7, 1884, near Siam, in Taylor County.

She moved with her parents and family to a farm in Jackson Township in Taylor County, where she spent her girlhood and attended Science Ridge School near her home.

She was united in marriage with Chester A[rthur]. WHEELEN on April 1, 1908, in her parents' home and of this union were born four sons and one daughter. Excepting for a brief time spent near Dunlap, Iowa, their home was established in Gay township, Taylor County.

Mrs. WHEELEN had been a member of the Methodist Church since 1910. During her lifetime she served as pianist and organist for the various churches she attended.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Maxine and LaVerne WORTHINGTON of Mt. Ayr; a son, Earl WHEELEN, and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. [Pauline (LONG) BELL] Emeral WHEELEN, of Maloy; her grandchildren, Mrs. Charles (Jane) BRABY of Maloy, Linda WORTHINGTON of New York City, Loretta WORTHINGTON of Clarinda, and Stephen WORTHINGTON of Mt. Ayr, her step-grandchildren, Roger BELL of Atlantic, and Richard BELL of Springfield, Mo.; nine great-grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.
