OBITUARY ~ NINA MARGIE (McELHINEY) POTTS

Nina Margie POTTS, 93, Hopkins, Missouri, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital in Lee's Summit, Missouri.

Nina was born March 2, 1916, in Red Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Vernon T. and Fern McELHINEY. She attended primary school in Benton, Iowa and graduated from high school in Ottawa, Kansas. Nina and Robert "Bob" POTTS married February 27, 1937 in Clarinda, Iowa. Bob, her husband of 47 years, passed away October 25, 1984.

Bob and Nina owned and operated POTTS Meat Locker Service for 25 years. After they closed the locker, Nina continued working at Mutti Hardware in Hopkins until her retirement in 1983. During WWII, Nina served her country working at the Pratt and Whitney Plant. She was an active member of Wray Memorial United Methodist Church, as a Sunday school teacher, organist and pianist, church treasurer, PEO member, and past President of the Women's Association. Nina, despite a busy schedule, spent much time with her family and even found time for fun as a member of the Hilltop Club, Art Club, and Hopkins bridge club. Nina loved to read, knit, and tackle a crossword puzzle. Nina lived in Hopkins until the age of 92, at which time she moved to Kansas City to be closer to her family and live with her son, Paul POTTS.

Survivors include her sister Helen MENDENHALL, Fort Dodge, Iowa; sister-in-law, Lucille POTTS, Commerce, Texas; son Paul and the late Esther POTTS, Grain Valley, Missouri; son Denzil and daughter-in-law Georgianne POTTS, Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren Elliott POTTS, Kansas City and Mallory POTTS, St. Louis, Missouri; Danny and wife Gina POTTS, Lee's Summit, Missouri; Kim and husband Bary KRAMER, Blue Springs, Missouri; Kris and husband Kerry PFINGSTON, Lee's Summit, Missouri; Susan Potts-Kennedy, Blue Springs, Missouri; great-grandchildren Kevin POTTS, Alysa and Riley KRAMER, Jena BRASFIELD and Jared LENTZ, Hannah and Garrett KENNEDY, Michelle HUBBARD, Melissa HUBBARD, Hunter PFINGSTON, Ashleigh PFINGSTON; great-great-grandchildren Weston BRASFIELD, Mason SAWYER, Miray EKICI.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2009, at Wray Memorial United Methodist Church, Hopkins, Missouri. Burial will be in the Hopkins Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2009, also at the church.

Memorials may be made in Nina's name to Wray Memorial United Methodist Church, 103 South 4th Street, Hopkins, Missouri 64461.
