OBITUARY ~ ELVIS EVERETT "MENDY" MENDENHALL

Elvis "Mendy" Everett MENDENHALL passed away at the age of 78 Tuesday, June 9, 2009. Everyone just knew him as "Mendy." He was born in Allendale, Mo., on Oct. 11, 1930, the son of Halard and Edna Mendenhall.

He grew up most of his life in Lenox, Iowa, where he married his high school sweetheart, his wife of 58 years, Justine BARKER. He spent most of his life in the retail/wholesale tire business and, in 1980, he moved to Prescott, where he purchased Ponderosa Tire Company. He spent the next 20 years building that business into a Prescott mainstay through good personal service, and he has passed that tradition on within the family.

Mendy was an avid fisherman, which he loved to share with family and friends. He was a loving and caring man, which showed not only in business but in life. He gave his time volunteering for the Prescott Noontime Lions Club, the Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters organization, and Alcoholics Anonymous. Mendy's motto was always "life is good ... it's all good."

He is survived by his wife, Justine; five children, Jill BROWN (Larry), Joy MENDENHALL (Dan), Jayne DAVIDSON (Jim), Jeff MENDENHALL and Jed MENDENHALL. He is also survived by his 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and one "little."

The family wishes you to join them in a celebration of his life at 2 p.m. Monday, June 15, 2009, at the American Lutheran Church, 1085 Scott Drive, Prescott. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to the Noontime Lions, Big Brothers Big Sisters organization or any charity of your choice.

As he lived this live on this Earth, he still continues to do in the hereafter... happy, joyous and free.

Information provided by survivors.
