OBITUARY ~ ROBBIE SHISLER

Miss Robbie SHISLER, who was born March 24, 1910, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 1982, at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 30 days. Robbie was the first child of Ed and Delpha SHISLER, born on a farm east of Gentry, Mo. She spent most of her life in Gentry County. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Robbie taught in elementary schools in northwestern Missouri and southwest Iowa for 46 years.

She began her teaching career in 1929 at the JENNINGS rural school near Stanberry, Mo. She was a direct descendant of Andrew JENNINGS, the founder of the school. She also taught at the Waterman rural school, the Sumner rural school near King City, Mo., and the Ford City school. Beginning in 1943 she taught 18 years in Stanberry, Mo. and in 1961 she began teaching in Mount Ayr, Iowa. She taught there until her retirement in 1975.

She was graduated from Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville with a bachelor of science degree in elementary eduation in 1946.

Robbie was a member of the First Christian Church of Stanberry, Mo., the National Education Association, the American Association of University Women and the Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include a sister, Lucille BASTOW, and her husband, Robert of Mount Ayr; a brother, Norwood SHISLER, and his wife Jerry of Palm Harbor, Fla.; a niece, Mary Lou JUDD, and her husband John and children Ginger and Pepper of Creston, Iowa; a niece, Vicky KRAMER and her husband Kim and children Kevin and Kristine of Conyers, Ga.; and a nephew, Tom SHISLER, and his wife Nora of Plainfield, Ill.

She is also survived by a step-niece Mary Sue WEBB and her husband, Jim and children Doug and Debbie, and a step-nephew, Keith BASTOW and his wife Sandra and children Suzan, Sharyn and Michael.

A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 26, at the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, conducted by Rev. Delores DOENCH. Music was by organist Mike GREENE.

Casketbearers were Larry GILES, Larry KIMBLE, Merritt TRIGGS, Raymond WALTER, Forrest ALLDREDGE and Raymond JENNINGS. Burial was in High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry, Mo.
