OBITUARY ~ IDA MELISSA (TRIGGS) SHIELDS

Ida Melissa TRIGGS SHIELDS was born in Palo Alto County, Iowa, April 3, 1889. She was the daughter of Mary Francis MARKER and John TRIGGS. She was promoted to her Heavenly home August 4, 1978 at 7:15 a.m. She left this earth from her home in the Watterson Community where she had come as a bride 70 years ago.

She was married to Willie Vern SHIELDS on June 17, 1908 in Ringgold City, Iowa. To this union was born two sons - John William and Marvin Dean of Mount Ayr and three daughters - Mary Ruth TAGGERT, Vera Bell HACKER and Mildred Irene WION, all of Mount Ayr.

She is survived by her children and nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchilren; one sister, Mary Dessie TRIGGS of Leon, Iowa; one brother, John William TRIGGS of Mount Ayr.

She was preceded in deth by her husband; a granddaughter, Georgia; a grandson, Dwight, and a great-grandson, Robert Forest; three sons-in-law, Lester WION, Vern HACKER and Wilber SUTHERLAND; one daughter-in-law, Edna; one sister, Eda BELL and three brothers, Roy, Martin and Harley.

She was born again when just a young woman and served the Lord faithfully the rest of her life. She was a charter member of the Pleasant Hill Assembly of God church.

She was a kinda and loving Christian mother and grandmother and neighbor, who will be sadly missed by her family, a host of nieces and nephews, friends and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 6, 1978 at 2 p.m. from the Rhoades-Wilson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr. Officiating minister was Rev. Mervin BALDWIN. Organist was Mrs. Robert THOMAS who accompanied vocalists, Mrs. Ronald SHIELDS and Mrs. Ed SHIELDS.

Casketbearers were Duane TRIGGS, Marvin TRIGGS, Ainslee TRIGGS, Merritt TRIGGS, Ronald SHIELDS and FOrrest SHIELDS. Honorary caskebearers were Leo TRIGGS, Junior WION, Fred SHIELDS, Bill SHIELDS, Robert SHIELDS, Junior SHIELDS, Victor SHIELDS and Kenneth SHIELDS. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr.
