OBITUARY - WILLIAM EDWARD SHAY

William Edward SHAY was born on Nov. 10, 1918 to William and Carolyn HART SHAY on a farm near Maloy, where he lived until entering military service in 1942.

His death occurrred Monday, Nov. 16, 1982, at age 64, as a result of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning in a new home he was constructing near Weldon, Iowa.

Mr. SHAY was married to Mabel REED on Nov. 24, 1945. Shortly afterward, they moved to Des Moines, where they resided until 1976 when they purchased a farm near Weldon which had since been their home.

While in Des Moines Mr. SHAY was employed as a carpenter and mill worker. he was an official in Carpenters Union and was active in Democratic politics.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and one brother, Richard.

Survivors include his wife Mabel; one son, Michael; and two grandchildren of Des Moines; a sister, Muriel TAPMAN of Washington, D.C.; and an uncle Robert E. SHAY of Clearview Home in Mount Ayr. He is also survived by four nephews, one niece, and numerous cousins.

Funeral services were held at Christ the King Catholic Church in Des Moines with Reverend Lawrence BURNS officiating. Burial took place at St. Mary's Cemetery near Maloy.
