OBITUARY ~ LEO ALFRED SALTZMAN

Leo Alfred SALTZMAN was born in Ringgold county, Iowa, June 4, 1901 to Frank and Mary SALTZMAN on the farm where he was now living.

He received his education in the Ringgold county schools and Des Moines University. He taught school in Ringgold county, Coburg Colsolidated (sic) School, and was Superintendent of Promise City School at Promise City, Iowa. He then decided he wished to return to the farm of his parents.

On June 18, 1927, he was united in marriage with Grace PHIPPEN of Exira, Iowa, at Indianola, Iowa, by the Rev. G. A. TENNANT, and to this union one son was born - Verle William.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Ayr. He was active in community affairs, was a member of the IOOF and Rebekah Lodge of Mount Ayr.

Most of his life was spent in Ringgold county, the past eight years he enjoyed spending the winters in Arizona.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Surviving are his wife, Grace; one sister, Dola (Mrs. Paul RYCHNOVSKY) of Benton, Iowa; also his son, Verle, and wife, Shirley, of Bettendorf, Iowa; one granddaughter, Roxie (Mrs. Sam VANDERJAGT, Jr.) and her husband, Sam, of Davenport; one great-grandson, David Alan VANDERJAGT; one aunt, Kate CAMPBELL, of Grant City, Missouri; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held June 23 from the Rhoades-Wilson Funeral Home, Mount Ayr, with the Rev. Paul KNIESS officiating. Larry HEMBRY, vocalist, was accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Rollin NOBLE. Casketbearers were Don ADAMS, Loren AXTELL, Donald MERCER, Lial SALTZMAN, Robert SALTZMAN and Richard SALTZMAN. Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr.
