OBITUARY ~ DEAN N. NEWTON
August 30, 1932 - June 28, 2011

Dean N. NEWTON died on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Grace Point Crossing in Cambridge after a long battle with heart and lung problems. He was 78-years-old.

Dean was born on August 30, 1932 in Kellerton, Iowa to Clarence and Jessie (SISSEL) NEWTON. Dean's family moved several times from Iowa to Minnesota where he attended several different schools.

In October of 1952 he was drafted into the Army and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. Dean served in the 6th Infantry Regiment heavy mortar company. He was honorably discharged in September of 1954.

On March 12, 1955 Dean was united in marriage to Barbara PORTERFIELD in Leon, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Roger, Jonni and Terri.

Dean worked for Western Weighing Inspecting Bureau (a division of the railroad) for 20 years. He loved the outdoors and all that it offered. Hunting deer was his favorite thing but he also fished, picked agates, worked in his garden and he loved to read.

Dean loved being with his family. He loved laughter and usually kept everyone laughing around him. He will be sadly missed by all.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Rex NEWTON and Leslie NEWTON; sisters Pauline NEWTON, Ruth TINDLE, Ruby DORFF and Doni JOY.

Dean is survived by his wife Barbara; son Roger (Jill) NEWTON of Ogilvie; daughters Jonni (Dave) PAULSEN of Isle and Terri STAEGE of St. Cloud; grandchildren Jeremy, Joshua and Matthew NEWTON, Justin, and Travis PAULSEN, Brittany and Dylan STAEGE; great-grandchildren Karissa, Brody and Garret NEWTON; his brothers Max NEWTON of Mora and Harry (Glendoris) TANNER of Iowa; his sister Atha SAWATZKY of Mora; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Dresser-Methven Funeral Home in Mora with Rev. Brenda WICKLUND officiating. Visitation will be from 10 until 11 A.M. Casketbearers are Paul SAWATZKY, Tim JOY, Bryan WACHSMUTH and Todd HOLMES. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Military Honors are being provided by Mora American Legion Post 201.
