OBITUARY ~ KEITH E. DAVIS
September 22, 1923 ~ December 8, 2010

Keith E. DAVIS, 87, of Ames died Wednesday, December 8th, 2010 at Mary Greeley Medical Center of complications of diabetes. Viewing will be from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, followed by funeral services at 1 p.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel at 607 28th Street in Ames with Pastor David BURLING officiating. Visitation with family will immediately follow the service. Burial with military rites will follow at Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Keith was born September 22, 1923 in Bonaparte, IA to Arthur and Irena (BOUGHTON) DAVIS. He graduated in 1941 from Diagonal High School. After high school he served in the U.S. Army with the 42nd Infantry Rainbow Division 222nd Infantry during WWII where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and helped to liberate the Dachau Concentration Camp and eraned the Bronze Star. Following the war he attended Iowa State College where he graduated in 1949 with a civil engineering degree.

Keith spent 38 years with the Iowa Department of Transportation, 24 of which he served as Director of the Department of Contracts in Ames. In 1977 Keith was awarded the Iowa Bulldog Award for Public Service for protecting the taxpayer dollar, presented by Governor Robert RAY. Following retirement he served for nine years as the Director of Membership and Services for the Associated General Contractors of Iowa.

In 1944 Keith married Marjorie BENTLEY and together they raised four children. Keith and Marge were privileged to enjoy 66 years together.

In his free time Keith very much enjoyed playing golf and he was a charter member of the Ballard Country Club. He was a Shriner, a Mason and a member of Ames Golden K Kiwanis Club.He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, including his daily 4:00 Geezers social. He also liked to follow Iowa State Cyclones athletics. For 14 years Keith and Marge spent their winters in Pharr, TX.

Keith is survived by his wife, Marge, of Ames, and four children Tish (Bill) COOK of Greenwood, MN; Steve (Deb) DAVIS of Bondurant; Linda SILKA (Larry SMITH) of Orono, ME; Mark (Kathy) DAVIS of Ames; Seven grandchildren, Molly TOOT, Amy HEALEY, Ian DAVIS, Kelli STUCKART, Chad COOK, Emily NUTSCH, Jesse DAVIS and seven great-grandchildren, Sarah, Margaret, Ben, Kennedy, Josie, Ephram, and Freya.

He was in preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters, and one grandson.
