Jim Everett BUNKER was born April 2, 1921, in Benton, IA, the son of Cleve A. BUNKER and Grace A. (NYE) BUNKER. Jim grew up in Ringgold County and was a 1938 graduate of Diagonal High School. He was united in marriage July 18, 1942, to Dorothy Gwendolyn (Gwen) BEER, at Maryville, MO. Two sons were born to Jim and Gwen, Bill J. BUNKER and Kerry Earl BUNKER.

Jim served with the United States Navy Seabees during World War II. He was a First Class Petty Officer, serving in the South Pacific for three years with the 53rd Battalion. When Jim returned from service, he worked for the highway commission as a civil engineer inspecting bridges and culverts across IA. Jim and Gwen lived in Council Bluffs, Schleswig, Bloomfield and then to Clarinda about 1950. Jim first worked for the Page County Engineer and then went to work with Jack and Jim Pullan at Clarinda Coal and Concrete. He later became co-owner with the Pullans. Jim retired in 1984.

Jim was a member of the First Christian Church, Clarinda, IA. He had been baptized in Pine's Pond, Diagonal, Iowa. Jim and Gwen enjoyed six winters in Texas.

Jim's greatest pleasures were his work and "telling stories" with friends. He was a great practical joker and went to great lengths to pull one off.

Left to cherish Jim's memory are his wife, Gwen BUNKER of Clarinda, IA; son, Bill BUNKER of Coralville, Iowa, and Kerry BUNKER and his wife Cindy of St. Joseph, MO; three grandchildren: Karen BUNKER and fiancee Jody FINK of Coralville, Iowa; Aaron BUNKER and wife Sara of Columbia, Missouri; and Haley BUNKER of St. Joseph, Missouri; one nephew, six nieces, and many friends.

Preceding Jim in death were his parents; a brother Billy Joe BUNKER and a sister June SCHLAPIA.

May God grant comfort and strength to those who mourn Jim's passing.

Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford, Iowa was in charge of the arrangements.
