OBITUARY - JAMES WILSON WALLING

James Wilson WALLING, son of Mark and Mary (WILSON) WALLING, was born April 15, 1939 in Davenport, Iowa.

Jim served with the U.S. Marine Reserves and attended Buena Vista College [presently currently Buena Vista University] in Storm Lake, Iowa where he received degrees in history and speech. He received his masters and ed specialist at the University of Northern Iowa and then served as superintendent of Grand Valley Community school at Kellerton, Iowa. After a period of farming in southern Iowa, Jim returned to the school business. He taught at an Indian reservation in Arizona and the Crow Creek reservation in South Dakota. He also taught one year in Tuntetuliac, Alaska, near the Bering Strait and served as the superintendent of the Revere, Missouri school system. On June 3, 1989, he married Patricia BUSBY MORRIS in Latimer, where the couple then resided. He was a substitute teacher for various schools in the area. The couple owned and operated The Neighbor's Place restaurant in Alexander from 1989 to 1991. They then moved to Des Moines where Jim taught at various schools in the Des Moines school system. He returned to college in 1993 and received his special eduation endorsement. From 1993 to 1996 he taught special education in the Waterloo school system.In August of 1997 he received his permanent special education certification and taught at Southeast Webster-Burnside until February of 1999, when he had to retire due to failing health. He is survived by his wife Pat; daughter Cosie Leigh WALLING; son Travis James WALLING; stepchildren, Sondra (Jim) MORRIS of Ames, Iowa, Melissa (Bob) WORMAN HILL of Belmond, Iowa, Darren MORRIS of Iowa City, Iowa and Todd (Michell) MORRIS of Clive, Iowa; and four loving grandchildren, Haley MORRIS, Brooklyn HILL, Jacob MORRIS and Zachary HILL. He will be remembered by his many friends, for his sense of humor and his love of hunting, learning and cooking. He was preceded in death by his parents. Jim attended Calvary Baptist Church in Webster City and was a member of the National Rifle Association, Izaak Walton League of Hamilton County and Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity.

James was laid to rest in the Coulter Cemetery, Coulter, Iowa following services. Foster Funeral Home of Webster City was in charge of arrangements.
