OBITUARY - DELMAR GALE MILLER

Delmar Gale MILLER, born at Audubon, Iowa, on April 1, 1920 to Clyde and Myrtle MILLER, died at Valley View Village Care Center in Des Moines on April 25, 2009, at the age of 89. He married Eleanor CAMPBELL in 1942 and had four children: Linda GOUGER (Mike), Gale MILLER (Diane), Duane MILLER (Donna) and Jim MILLER.

Delmar received the Purple Heart for an injury he sustained while serving in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945. In 1946, they bought a farm near Mt. Ayr, IA where he farmed from 1946 to 1970. In 1970, Delmar and Eleanor moved to Altoona, IA, where he worked for the Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1982. They remained in Altoona until moving to Valley View Village, 2571 Guthrie Ave, Des Moines, IA 50317.

Delmar was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Myrtle MILLER, brothers Lyle, Wayne, Dallas, and Virgil MILLER, and a sister Hazel LaFOY.

Delmar leaves to mourn his death his wife, 4 children, 6 grandchildren (David GOUGER, Joe GOUGER, Bret MILLER, Kyle Miller, Brooks MILLER, and Laura MILLER), and 7 great-grandchildren (Ed, Andrew, Shandee, Devin, Kiersten, Daisy, Isabella), 4 nieces, 4 nephews, and a host of friends.

Donations may be made to the Altoona Christian Church or the Christian Community Food Pantry at 1250 Sloans Way, Pleasant Hill, IA 50327.

Services were held Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Altoona Christian Church, Altoona, Iowa, with Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home of Mount Ayr, Iowa, in charge of arrangements. Interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa.
