Vivian LeRoy Wells, son of James L. and Clara Utena Moler Wells, was born April 7, 1912 near Benton, Iowa, and passed away August 23, 1989, at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 77 years, four months, and 16 days, of congestive heart failure.

Vivian spent most of his life in Ringgold County. He was a farmer and enjoyed working with livestock, with a special interest in training horses, and doing some carpentry with his brother-in-law, Carl Hogue, when time permitted.

Vivian and Ida Mae(y)Sharp were united in marriage on June 17, 1933 at Bethany, Missouri. to this union, six children were born: Millicent (Mrs. Ed)Knight, James Ray and wife Virginia, Gary and wife Karen, Jeanne Lynn, Janet (Mrs. Carl) Fox, and Patricia (Mrs.Kenneth) Baker.

Mae and Vivian moved into Mount Ayr in October 1984 after a farm machinery sale, retiring and enjoying trips, friends, and attending various activities, including western square dancing.

Vivian enjoyed his many friends, visiting with young and old alike. He regularly visited a local automobile agency and loved going on errands for them.

Vivian was preceded in death by his daughter, Jeanne Lynn; his parents; three sisters, Beulah Bush, Treva Waugh and Mabel Hogue, and two brothers, George Wells and Raymond Wells.

Surviving Vivian are his loving and faithful wife, Mae(y), of 56 years; his children, Millicent, J. R. (James Ray), Gary, Janet, and Pat, and his sister Edith James. He was very proud and interested in his nine grandchildren: Chris and Mark Baker, Carla and Bobby Fox, Lance and Ryan Wells, Wendy and Michael Wells, and Lynnette Knight.

Vivian will be missed, though fondly remembered, by his many relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 26, 1989, from the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Jerry C. Runkle. Music was provided by Mike Greene, Mary Trullinger and Melanie Trullinger.

Casketbearers were Ed Shields, Gary Schwab, Raymond Drake, Barton Shields, Charles Harvey and Lloyd Glendenning. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, Iowa.
