Norma Eugenia MAXINE, age 89, the daughter of Albert and Emma (HELMKE) BINNEBOESE, was born April 4, 1916, at Hinton, Iowa, and passed away November 23, 2005, in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Growing up on a farm near Hinton, Iowa, Norma graduated from Sioux City Central High School in 1934. After high school she attended Normal Training and then taught in a rural school for a short time. She furthered her education at a business college in Minneapolis, Minnesota before working for Quality Foods, which was a division of the Piggly Wiggly chain in Minneapolis. There she met Edward MAXINE and after he served three years during World War II, they were married on September 10, 1945. Norma and Ed moved to Shenandoah in 1950, and was employed by Doctors L. C. STRATHAM and Clayton PETTIPIECE, Grape Community Hospital and Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1982. Norma was one of the original founding partners with Ed in Triple K Manufacturing in Shenandoah.

Norma was an active member in her community, where she belonged to several organizations: Congregational United Church of Christ, Charter member of Garden Club, secretary of Red Feather Campaign [United Fund], Shenandoah Hospital Auxiliary [Hand Community Hospital], where she served as secretary, Nautilus Club, Music Club, and American Legion Auxiliary. She was also an active volunteer for the Food Pantry, Blood Mobile, Hospital Auxiliary and Elm Heights Care Center.

Sports were an important part of Norma’s life as she enjoyed golf, fishing and bowling. Ed encouraged her to learn to fly so she earned her flying license. They flew all over the United States and into Canada, where they liked to fish.

Later, Norma and Ed built a lake home at Sun Valley in Ringgold County, where they enjoyed spending time with their family and friends. Norma enjoyed being with people and made many friends both in Shenandoah and Sun Valley at Ellston, Iowa.

Preceding Norma in death were her parents; husband in 1996; brothers, Eugene and Donald BINNEBOESE; and sisters, Lucile REIMAN and Eldora McENTAFFER.
