OBITUARY - REV. PHILIP L. KINTON

The Rev. Philip L. KINTON, 66, of Ellston, formerly of Mount Ayr, died Sept. 10, 1999, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

He was born May 2, 1933, in Brunswick to Russell J. and Esther Ruth (GIBBS) KINTON. He graduated from Hiram College and Drake University in 1958. He served as pastor of First Christian Church in Mount Ayr for more than 20 years. He lived in Deep River, Pierson and Zearing before moving to Mount Ayr in 1976. The Rev. KINTON served as district president of Southwest Iowa Disciples of Christ and was a member of Mount Ayr Lions, Ringgold County Ministerial Association, Ringgold County Historical Society board of directors and Habitat for Humanity. He was a master gardner, former Boy and Cub Scout leader, former county chairman of the Red Cross and served on the Governor's Youth Committee. He worked more than 80 weeks at Christian Conference summer camp in Newton, and directed Chi Rho and Junior High camps at Newton.

He is survived by his wife, the Rev. Doris M. (nee SEABROOK) of Ellston, whom he married Aug. 28, 1955; son, Tom (Vanessa) KINTON of Columbia, S.C.; daughters, Lorinda (Jim) PARKER of Blue Springs, Mo., and Karla KINTON of Urbandale; sister, Carolyn KINTON of Detroit, Mich.; three grandchildren; aunt, Esther GIBBS; several cousins, the GIBBS and VINTONS; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Edward.

Service and visitation were held. Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr, were in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Christian Conference Center in Newton or to the Phil KINTON Memorial.
