OBITUARY - PEARL "ARLENE" (CATTERSON) GODDEN

Arlene GODDEN passed away Thursday, October 11, 2001 at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee, at the age of 84.

Pearl Arlene CATTERSON was born on May 19, 1917 in Clearfield, IA to Bruce and Cora CATTERSON. She grew up in Mount Ayr, IA and fell in love with a man from nearby Kellerton, IA. Ralph and Arlene GODDEN were married in 1936 and moved to Washington state soon after.

The GODDEN's worked side-by-side for many years, beginning in their first store, GODDEN's Jewelry & Watch Repair in Bellingham, WA.

Ralph and Arlene enjoyed life together and were very active in the community. Arlene was president of the Wives Club in Bellingham in 1952.

In 1956, Ralph, Arlene and their son Larry moved to Stanwood and operated the Hitching Post department store.

Following the passing of her husband, Arlene moved to Mount Vernon, WA and then to Lacey, WA and finally to Moses Lake, WA in 1986 to be close to her son and his family. She spent her days sewing dresses for her granddaughters and baking delicious pies and cookies for the holidays. She is famous for her raspberry jam and her beautiful, award-winning quilts.

Arlene will be missed by those that knew and loved her. She was a wonderful mother, daughter, sister, wife, and a terrific Grandma.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Sheila GODDEN; her granddaughters, Carly, Holly and Jenna GODDEN; her sister, Ruby JOHNSON and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Saturday in Stanwood, WA, where she was laid to rest next to her late husband Ralph, at the Anderson Cemetery.

Memorials may be donated to: National Osteoporosis Foundation, 1232 22nd St. N.W., Washington, DC 20037-1292, Attn: Ms. Diane KEWESHAN.
