MRS. JAMES A. SWEENEY

Adeline Francis SWEENEY, daughter of Nathaniel and Betsy Jane SCOTT, was born Oct. 9, 1886, near Redding, IA, and passed away June 1, 1973, in the Ringgold County Hospital after suffering three weeks with a broken hip, caused by a fall.

On May 22, 1905, she was united in Marriage with James A. SWEENEY, and of this union were born eleven children. They established their home near Allendale, MO. and later moved to Iowa.

She attended the Caledonia Methodist Church and later at Mount Ayr, when she was able.

She was a kind and loving mother. She loved flowers and was happiest when working with them.

Preceding her in death were her husband, James; daughters, Hazel SPENCER and an infant; a three year old son, Ervin; and infant son; William Floyd, who lost his life in WW II; her parents, five sister, two brothers and a son-in-law.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are her children, Mamie and Duane CALHOUN, Corvallis, Ore; Cleo and Iva SWEENEY of Calaremont, SD; Velma and Glen CALDWELL of Lamoni; Ruby MILLS, and Russell and Marjorie SWEENEY, Mount Ayr, IA., Nina and Lloyd GERMAN, Des Moines, IA and son-in-law, Owen SPENCER, Mount Ayr, IA, one sister-in-law, Mae BARNETT, Waverly, NE; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Funeral services were held June 4, from the Rhodes Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Orville RINEHART of Bethany, MO. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, IA.

NOTE: Staff Sergeant William F. SWEENEY served with the U.S. Army, 377th Infantry Regiment, 95th Infantry Division during World War II. He was killed in action on Thursday, November 9, 1944 and interred in Plot J, Row 31, Grave 36 at Lorraine American Cemetery, St. Avold (Moselle), France. S SG William F. SWEENEY was awarded the Purple Heart.
