OBITUARY - S. C. STEPHENS.

Stacy Cornelius STEPHENS, the eldest son of Azariah and Clarissa STEPHENS, was born in Green county, Pennsylvania, June 9, 1849. He passed from this life October 17, 1931, aged 82 years, four months and eight days.

On January 11, 1877, he was united in marriage with Miss Rosa Belle BAUM, of Ross county, Ohio. They immediately came west and established a home in Rice township, where they have lived continuously for the last 54 years.

There were nine children came to bless the home, three of whom died in infancy. Those left to mourn the loss of a kind father are his wife and six children - George STEPHENS of Clearfield, Iowa; Mrs. Nellie ROBERTS of Kellerton, Iowa; Mrs. Ella RICHARDSON of Benton, Iowa; Mrs. Anna DEIBERT of St. Joseph, Mo.; T. J. STEPHENS and Clarence STEPHENS of Benton, Iowa. There are also 15 grandchildren; one brother, T. J. STEPHENS of Redding, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Mary L. WRIGHT of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Ella BOWLBY of Beaconsfield, Iowa, and many nephews and nieces.

One brother, Mr. John Ross STEPHENS, preceded him in death 15 years ago, and his eldest sister, Mrs. J. K. PARSHALL, passed away just nine days ago.

Mr. STEPHENS became a christian many years ago, and united with the Baptist church at Delphos, Iowa, of which he was a member at the time of his death. He was a home-loving man and was never happier than when surrounded by his children and grandchildren. His death marks the passing of one of Ringgold county's oldest and most highly respected citizens.

The funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Delphos, Tuesday, October 20, at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. C. J. HAMILTON, pastor of the First Baptist church of Mount Ayr. Interment was in the Redding [Fairview] cemetery.

NOTE: Clarissa STEPHENS, Stacy's mother, was born on August 8, 1826, and died at the age of 74 years, 2 months and 17 days on October 25, 1900. Azariah STEPHENS, Stacy's father was born in 1821, and died at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 29 days on October 29, 1902. They were interred at Fairview Cemetery near Redding, Ringgold County, Iowa.
