OBITUARY.

Mary Evaline, daughter of Hosea and Rachel LONG was born Sept 2, 1867 near Fairfield, Iowa and passed away August 29 1956 at her home in Mount Ayr, at the age of 88 years, 11 months, and 29 days.

She came with her parents to Ringgold County in 1882 and with the exception of a few years in North Dakota and Humeston, Iowa her entire life was spent in Ringgold County. On June 28, 1887 she was united in married to Alpha L. SPENCER. To this union were born seven children--3 sons and four daughters: Cecil Henry, of Des Moines; Edward Merritt, of Fresno, Calif.; Percy Leroy and girls, Mrs. Marie [Mrs. Howard] KIPPER, of Des Moines, IA; Mrs. Mamie [Mrs. Charles] HOOVER, of Mount Ayr, Iowa; Mrs. Madge [Mrs. Reed] SPONSLER, of Humeston, Iowa; and, Mrs. Mildred [Mrs. Robert] STEVENSON, of Colo, IA. Early in life, she united with the Delphos Christian Church and was a loyal worker. Later she transferred her membership to the Mount Ayr Christian Church and continued a faithful Christian until the last. Her long, useful life, devoted to good deeds and loving service to her family will ever be an inspiration to all her loved ones. Her continued interest in life and in her many friends and relatives and her uncomplaining acceptance of restricted personal activities during the past several years have made her home a favorite stopping place for many. The periods of companionship shared with her will always remain precious memories of those who knew and loved her, as will her sincere appreciation of any act or deed of thoughtfulness shown her.

NOTE: Alpha Lawrence SPENCER was born in Piatt County, Illinois on February 5, 1966, and died at Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, on November 26, 1957. Alpha and Mary were interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa. Of Alpha and Mary's children:
Cecil Henry SPENCER, husband of Pearl R. (1887-1980) was born May 19, 1890, and died on October 28, 1975, interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr;
Mamie O. (SPENCER) was born in 1888 and died in 1966 with interment at Redding Cemetery beside her husband Charles E. HOOVER (1885-1962);
Percy Leroy SPENCER, husband of Amy P. (1894-1977), was born November 26, 1896, and died September 5, 1952, interment at Rose Hill Cemetery; and,
Mildred M. (SPENCER) born 1905 and died 1985, Chariton, Lucas County, Iowa, wife of Charles "Robert" STEVENSON (1899-1987 with interment at Gosport Cemetery, Marion County, Iowa, parents of Robert STEVENSON of Quincy, Illinois.
