OBITUARY - MRS. ARTHUR SMITH.

Clara Nell LOCKWOOD, daughter of John Quincy and [Carlonia Charlotte (LENTZ)] Lottie LOCKWOOD, was born in Decatur county, Iowa, December 23, 1880, and died at the Sisters' hospital in St. Joseph, Mo., August 23, 1927, at the age of 46 years and eight months.

She lived with her parents in Decatur county until December 23, 1909, when she was married to Arthur W. SMITH and they moved to their farm southwest of Tingley. They moved from the farm to their home in north Tingley about three years ago where they have since resided. Their wedded life was blessed with three children - John ["Johnnie"] and Marguerite, now living and Alberta, who passed away last April.

Besides the members of her immediate family there are her father, two brothers, Jake and John LOCKWOOD, and one sister, Mrs. Alta PETTY, who are left in their bereavment.

Mrs. SMITH was a kind neighbor, respected by those who knew her and greatly devoted to her family. The many friends of Tingley and vicinity unite in the sympathy with the bereaved relatives.

God gave us blessing and then not done
With blessing from above,
He gave to us His crowning one -
A mother's tender love.

Funeral services will be held at the Tingley M. E. church at 2:30 Thursday afternoon in charge of Rev. L. C. THOMAS and interment made in the Tingley cemetery by the side of Alberta.

NOTE: Jacob Harvey LOCKWOOD, Clara's brother, was born in Woodland Township of Decatur County, Iowa, on January 16, 1883; married Minnie RAINS (1886-1978) and had four children - Genevieve Marie, Vinetta Mable who married David "Dave" HILL, Eldon Wesley, and Earl Dean; and, died at Tingley on November 25, 1955 with interment at Tingley Cemetery. Clara's other siblings were John Quincy LOCKWOOD II and Alta Maria (LOCKWOOD), the wife of Harley George PETTY.

Arthur W. SMITH was born in 1879 and died in 1936 with interment at Tingley Cemetery. Of Clara Nell (LOCKWOOD) and Arthur W. SMITH's children: John "Johnnie" was born in Ringgold County on October 8, 1909, and died on August 31, 1965 with interment at Tingley Cemetery; Marguerita Elosie was born in Ringgold County, Iowa on March 19, 1911, and, died December 3, 1974 in Leon, Decatur County, Iowa with interment at Leon Cemetery, the wife of married Joseph McCullough NULPH, and the mother of Delores, Larry, and Ronald NULPH; Alberta L. was born in 1912 and died in 1927 with interment at Tingley Cemetery.
