DEATH of MRS. GEO. E. SHAFER.

Mrs. Geo. E. SHAFER died Monday afternoon, October 11, at their home in Diagonal after a long illness. Mrs. SHAFER was the oldest child of the late Michael STAHL, pioneer resident of Ringgold county. She was born in Indiana [in 1855] and when a year old was brought by her parents to the neighborhood which has been her home ever since. She is survived by her husband and seven children. her oldest daughter, Mrs. G. A. BEYMER, and two of her sisters, Mrs. Randolph S. BEALL and Mrs. Chas. M. KING, live in Mount Ayr.

The funeral services will be held in the Methodist church in Diagonal Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Guy J. WINSLOW. Interment will be in Bethel cemetery near Diagonal.

NOTE: Melissa's father Michael STAHL was born September 17, 1831, and died March 18, 1921 with interment at Bethel Cemetery near Diagonal, Ringgold County, Iowa, beside Melissa's mother. Mary (TALLEY) STAHL, wife of Michael and Melissa's mother was born October 3, 1834, and died August 20, 1894.

Melissa L. STAHL married George E. SHAFER on August 16, 1869. George was born in Ohio on December 8, 1849, the son of James W. and Lucinda SHAFER, and died July 13, 1933 with interment beside Melissa at Bethel Cemetery.

NOTE: Of Melissa E. (STAHL) and George E. SHAFER's children: Charles W. SHAFER died in 187_ and was interred at Bethel Cemetery; Ida SHAFER died on March 18, 1875 and was interred at Bethel Cemetery; Nora L. (SHAFER) DINKEL was born in 1879 and died in 1974 with interment beside her husband, Harry A. (1872-1930) at Bethel Cemetery; Sadie (SHAFER) WALL was born in 1880 and died in 1982 with interment at Bethel Cemetery beside her husband Orville (1891-1973);and, Alonzo SHAFER died in 1883 and was interred at Bethel Cemetery.
