The Ringgold Record, 1884

OBITUARY.

DIED--W. A. SELLARDS of this place on Friday, August 1, 1884, of consumption, aged 26 years.

He was born in Ohio, July, 31, 1858 and came to Ringgold county with his parents in 1864. He has grown up in Mt. Ayr, and made friends all over the county. And among all his numerous acquaintances none knew him but to honor and respect his quiet, gentlemanly demeanor and to be proud of his friendship. If the young folks of his age wanted to get up a party, or if base-ball, fire company, band or any other united movement was put on foot, they always counted on his aid. He not only took part in all these things, but he lent his best energies to make them a success. It has been known for some time that he could not last long, but when the blow came it was not any easier to bear, and it fell like a leaden messenger on many a heart.

The funeral obsequies were conducted on Sabbath, Rev. W. E. ANDREWS delivered the funeral address, which was a tender tribute to the departed and full of beautiful thoughts for the liging (sic). As he had been a member of the band and fire company, they turned out in full force to assist in performing the last sad rites.

He was his widowed mother's chief reliance, and it seems all the more sad that he should be taken hence in the bright flush of his young manhood, when life was presenting so many grand possibilities to him and when he had arrived at the right age to be such [illegible] help to his mother and younger brothers. The vast sympathy of the whole community is extended to them.

Card of Thanks.

Agreeable to the last wish of Wm. A. SELLARDS, and in accordance with our feelings we take this method of expressing our heartfelt thanks to the members of the fire company and band, and to the many other kind friends who were so attentive during the sickness, death and burial of our Will. May God bless each of you with as kind friends when the time of affliction comes.

MRS. D. F. SELLARDS, AND FAMILY.
