OBITUARY - ILA L. BARR

Ila L. BARR, 90, a longtime resident of Ponca City, died April 30th in Clinton, MD. She was born March 18, 1914, in Red Rock, daughter of John William and Allene (HUMPHREY) DICKSON. Her parents, brother and two sisters preceded her in death.

She attended the Ponca City schools, and as a teenager, danced in the chorus line for variety shows at the Poncan Theater. She graduated from Ponca High School in 1932.

She married Lawrence L. HASKINS in 1932. They had two children, Wyneth June HASKINS, and Karyn Lynn HASKINS. During her early married years, she was a seamstress, and made dresses designed for Lydie MARLAND, wife of the Governor of Oklahoma.

She was an active member of First Christian Church. She taught Sunday School in the Primary Department for 45 years, and was given the Teacher of the Year Award in 1965. She also spent many years working with the Camp Fire Girls Association.

Lawrence HASKINS died in 1968. She married Paul R. BARR in 1971. They enjoyed retirement and traveling with friends. He died in 1981.

Mrs. BARR is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Wyneth June (HASKINS) SWETT of Temple Hills, MD, and Mrs. Karyn Lynn (HASKINS) GUIER of Cantonment, FL; three grandchildren, Scott L. SWET of Falls Church, VA, Bruce A. SWETT of Burke, VA, and Mrs. Shea (GUIER) GOODALE of Cantonment, FL, and five great-grandchildren; two step-daughters, Mrs. Pauletta (BARR) BEATY and Mrs. Janie (BARR) MORGAN of Ponca; five step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 8, at Bethany Christian Church, 7128 Allentown Road, Fort Washington, MD 20744. In accordance with her wishes, her body will be cremated and her ashes returned to Ponca for a memorial service and interment in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Friends and relatives and First Christian Church will be notified as to the date of this service.

NOTE: Lawrence HASKINS was the son of Charles Wesley and Clara Bell (MERRYMAN) HASKINS who resided in Ringgold County, Iowa.
