OBITUARY

William Franklin BEAR, son of Solomon and Amanda (DAILEY) (sic) BEAR, was born June 1, 1885, on a farm northwest of Kellerton and departed this life January 28, 1971, in the Clearview Home in Mount Ayr at the age of 85 years, seven months and 28 days.

He was united in marriage with Anna Pearl SHELDEN and of this union were born ten children - Glenn BEAR of Kellerton; Theola BARBOUR of Des Moines; Orville BEAR of Tingley; Frata BACH of San Jose, Calif.; Gladys BEAL of San Francisco, Calif.; Reuben Eugene BEAR of San Mateo, Calif.; Doris CAMPBELL of Indianola and Leonard BEAR, Thelma BEAR and Edna STACY, who preceded him in death.

Mr. BEAR spent his life on a farm in Ringgold County until 1945 and was employed with the county until his retirement. He was known as a good neighbor and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his seven children; two sisters, Nellie MAGGARD of Mount Ayr and Agnes GILES of Chico, Calif.; eighteen grandchildren; forty three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held January 31 from the Rhoades Funeral Home conducted by Cela FUGATE. Mr. and Mrs. Francis McDOWELL sang, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Weldon MEADOWS. Casket-bearers were Clair WOOLLUMS, Loren RUSH, Marvin SHIELDS, Donald SEVIER, Sam MERRILL and Harold AKRES and honorary bearers were Ora FUGATE, Cecil JOHNSTON, Lynn BUELL and Roy COOPER. Burial was in the Oliver Cemetery [Ringgold County, Iowa].
