OBITUARY - MRS. SOLOMON BEAR

Amanda Elvina DOOLY, daughter of John and Marial DOOLY, was born in Harrison County, MO, September 19, 1850. She moved with her parents later to Clarke County near Hopeville. She was married to Solomon BEAR February 14, 1872, and they began housekeeping on the place they have called home through all the years since. To this union were born five children, Mrs. Dollie MAGGARD, Selma, Calif.; Mrs. Nellie MAGGARD, who lives near the old home; Mrs. Mary ATWOOD, Selma, Calif.; Mrs. Agnes GILES, Orland, Calif.; and W. F. BEAR, who lives on the old home place. Her husband died October 25, 1913. She leaves to mourn her the children already mentioned, grand children, and one step-son, W. S. BEAR, of Des Moines. Her going marks the passing of one of the county's oldest residents. They began their home when hospitality was fashionable and folks always found their latch string out. Old time neighbors tell of their willingness to be good neighbors and to lend a hand in time of need. When a girl, she united with the Presbyterian Church at Hopeville and has ever been found a devoted member, a kind neighbor and loyal friend. She has been ill for months and since last August she has been confined to her bed. She died Tuesday morning, January 10, at the old home, where the funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon conducted by Rev. A. M. NICHOLS, of this place. Interment was made in the family burying ground [BEAR Cemetery] near the old home.
