OBITUARY - INGER ELIZABETH "LIZZY" (MICKELSON) GARRETT

Inger Elizabeth GARRETT, daughter of Anton Marinus & Jane (LUND) MICKELSON, was born September 10, 1911 at Scranton, IA. On April 6, 1936 Lizzy married Mark Lyle GARRETT. They lived near Redfield before moving to Diagonal in 1949. Lizzy was a hardworking mother and housewife, spending hours working in the field, in her garden and inside the home. She also had a love of quilt making and exhibited her quilts at the Iowa State Fair for over 27 years.

Lizzy lived at home with her husband Mark until December of 2006 when she and Mark became residents of Clearview Home in Mount Ayr where they enjoyed many new friendships with residents and caretakers. Lizzy passed away on August 18, 2007.

Lizzy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Mark; daughters Ruby Elizabeth COMER and Martha May GARRETT in infancy; son in law Allen (Bud) COMER; grandson Steve COMER; 1 great grandchild in infancy; 4 brothers Einer, Martin, Paul Christian, and Fred MICKELSON; 4 sisters Marie SABKE, Elma MICKELSON, Esther EBRECHT and Mary MICKELSON; brothers-in-law Walter and Emil SABLE, Newt TAYLOR, Ray and Harmon GARRETT, Percy JENKINS and Bob PRICE; sisters-in-law Bernice and Phyllis MICKELSON; Elsie PRICE and Alice JENKINS.

Survivors include her 3 children Art and wife Barb GARRETT, Ernie and wife Mary Jane GARRETT and Dorothy SMITH, all of Diagonal; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren; brothers Ivan of Oregon and Paul of Iowa; sisters Dulcie TAYLOR and Lillian SABLE of Iowa; brothers in law Bob EBRECHT, Harold GARRETT, and Dale WICKS; sisters-in-law Annie, Eleanor and Darlene MICKELSON, Ruth WICKS and Lucy GARRETT.

Services were held on Tuesday, August 21, 2007, at 10:30 a.m., United Church of Diagonal, Iowa.
