OBITUARY - CHARLES "KIM" BECK

Charles "Kim" BECK passed away at home on Friday, April 25, 2008.

Kim was born on November 25, 1953 to Robert Charles and Verba (DUFTY) BECK.

Kim was a long-time resident of Ringgold County. He graduated from Mt Ayr Community High School in 1972. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering from Iowa State University in 1976.

Kim returned home after college to help farm a third generation, diversified family farm in southern Ringgold County. Kim and Michele MAGUIRE were united in marriage on October 8, 1978. They shared their married years together on the "home place", where Kim grew up. Cattle production was Kim’s love, and he was well known for his dedication to his cow/calf operation. He modeled an exemplary work ethic, made quality decisions and continuously challenged us to think. Kim always liked to look for symmetry in life and he found this symmetry in the outdoors and working with cattle.

Those who knew Kim know that he gave us many gifts. Kim shared his wit and wise thoughts. He was a thinker and a reader. He shared stories and he listened. Hopefully many of you were the recipient of a good conversation with Kim.

In our world of carefully constructed chaos, Kim believed it was our job to understand the contrast between good and evil --- through this understanding he believed we could learn to appreciate the power of goodness. His family witnessed this power in Kim and treasured his gentle spirit, caring heart, and his love and support. He was an inspiration to those around him.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Daniel, and brother-in-law Frank.

He is survived by a brother David and wife Patty, sister Judy HUFF, sister-in-law Sue BECK, brother-in-law Erin MAGUIRE, sister and brother-in-laws Nicolette and Ron BONNSTETTER, along with his parents-in-law Delmar and JoAnn MAGUIRE.

Kim has several nieces and nephews who will continue to share a warm place in their heart for their Uncle Kim. He will be missed by many friends and relatives.

Celebration of Kim’s Life will be at the REC meeting room in Mount Ayr on Tuesday, April 29, at 5 p.m. His ashes and a special marker will be on the BECK Farm.

If you would like to remember Kim, please share with the family in remembering Kim’s life by “doing good” and contributing to your favorite charity. The family will honor Kim by donating to Hope Lodge, Rochester, Minnesota.
