OBITUARY - JEREMIAH MORFORD

Jeremiah "Jerry" MORFORD was born April 1, 1848, the son of Philip and Mary MORFORD, and died on February 17, 1920 at Mount Ayr.

He served as a Private with Company B of the 51st Illinois Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War and later was a member of the Mount Ayr G.A.R.

Suviving are his wife Rachel of Mount Ayr; brothers John S. MORFORD of Indianapolois, Indiana and A. J. MORFORD of St. Joseph, Missouri; and sisters Ellen MATOX of Indianapolis, Indiana, Mrs. H. F. WEBER of Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. S. M. BISHOP of Gallitin, Missouri.

Interment was made at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr.

NOTE: According to census records, Jeremiah was a house plasterer and was married first to Mary A., born 1844, Ohio. They were the parents of A. J. MORFORD, born circa 1861, Illinois, and Ida A., born in Ohio circa 1862. Mary A. MORFORD, Jeremiah's first wife, died from tuberculosis. Rachel, Jeremiah's second wife, was born in Ireland, April of 1863. No children were born to this marriage.

A[ndrew]. J. MORFORD of St. Joseph, Missouri, was admitted to the State Hospital at St. Joseph, Missouri on January 28, 1929. According to his admittance papers, he was married with four children and had nine brothers with three who had died and three living sisters. Prior to experiencing a couple of strokes, A. J. was a plasterer. A. J. MORFORD died on March 31, 1933.
