OBITUARY.

Died, at his home, one mile south of Redding, at ten o'clock p.m., August 9, 1892 Mr. William Montgomery MILLER, aged 71 years 6 months and 7 days.

The deceased was the son of Henry and Catherine MILLER, born in Rockbridge county, Virginia, February 2d, 1821. August 26, 1846 he married Miss Elizabeth McEMY. She died July 17, 1848. Again, March 13, 1855, he married Miss Mary Jane KNIGHT who with eight children is left to mourn his loss. In 1859, Mr. MILLER with his family came to Ringgold county, Iowa, was one of its early settlers having been a citizen of this county for 33 years. He was known by a great many people in the county and was highly respected by all. He had also a large circle of relations among whom are his brothers, James, Thompson and Nathan, who are leading citizens of our county. Mr. MILLER was a good man and an exemplary Christian man. In his youth he made a public profession of his faith in Jesus Christ and connected with the Associate church in Virginia, and at his death he was a leading member of the United Presbyterian church in Redding, Iowa and as a church we feel called upon to bear witness to his faithfulness and the consistency of his Christian life.

As a Christian, he was meek, humble and diligent. As a husband and a father he was kind, tender and affectionate. As a neighbor he was obliging and sympathetic. As a citizen he was exemplary in every thing. Both the church and the community deeply feel and mourn his loss. But what is our loss is his eternal gain. Mr. MILLER had very full and clear views of his acceptance with Christ. In a conversation we had with him when he was just coming down with this which proved to be his last sickness he said to me, "I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I committed unto him against that day, Mr. INCHES," he continued, "I have no doubt of my acceptance with Christ, and whatever may be the Lord's will I am ready." His remains were followed by a large concourse of people to the Middle Fork church where a sermon was preached from the words above given: 2 Tim 1-12 and then deposited in Rose Hill cemetery [Mount Ayr]. His bereaved family have the sympathy of all who know them. --DAVID INCHES
