DEATH of CAPTAIN NATHAN MILLER.

Captain Nathan MILLER, an old and highly respected citizen in Middle Fork township, died on Monday, September 30th, 1895, at 11:30 o'clock p.m., after a sickness of many days.

Captain MILLER was aged 71 years, 5 months and 13 days. He had passed the allotted time, "three score years and ten." Years sat lightly on him, since he had a vigorous constitution and cheerful spirits. He was born in Rockbridge county, Va., April 17, 1824. His early life was spent in his native state, and he received such an education as the country afforded in the common schools. December 9, 1847, he was married to Miss Sarah H. SHAFFER. On September 12, 1855, with his wife, five children, a horse team and wagon he started for Iowa. He stopped for awhile in Louisa county, but in March of 1855 (sic) he came to Ringgold county and located on the farm where he spent the rest of his days. He knew from experience the trials and self-denials of pioneer life. In November, 1862, he was elected captain of company B, Third Battalion Home Guards. He performed the duties well until they disbanded in 1864. Mr. and Mrs. MILLER were the paents of eleven children and most of them live to lament his death. He owned a large farm and his industry and enterprise added much to the improvement of the country. He served in many offices and always faithfully and well. He was noted as a good citizen and always reliable. He early associated himself with the Advent Christian church and was a good exemplar in the religious life.

NOTE: Sarah H. (SHAFFER), wife of Captain Nathan MILLER, was born on October 4, 1861, and died July 30, 1914. Captain and Sarah MILLER were interred at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa.
