OBITUARY - FRANK McGUGIN.

Frank McGUGIN was born in Washington county, Pa., July 24, 1843, and passed away October 19, 1925, at the home of his son Dan, at Nashville, Tenn., aged 82 years, two months and 25 days. In 1846 his parents moved to Knox county, Ohio. He enlisted in Company A, 30th Ohio Infantry in 1861 and was in Virginia the first two years of the war and his regiment was then made a part of the army of the Potomac, and later transferred to the army of the Mississippi. He was in twenty-eight engagements; later was captured and spent two months in Andersonville prison from which he escaped and walked 300 miles to the Union lines. He rejoined his regiment, was made first lieutenant and later captain. After the close of the war he returned to Ohio and was united in marriage to Miss Melissa (sic) CRITCHFIELD, who passed away December 25, 1915. Three children - Mrs. Stella GRAY, Dan and Clifford - were born to this union, all of whom survive, and were present at the funeral. The family moved to Ringgold county in 1870, settling on a farm in Tingley township. They moved to Tingley about twenty-five years ago and resided here until the death of Mrs. McGUGIN, since which time he has made his home with his children. Ever since the organization of the G.A.R. post here Mr. McGUGIN has been a leading spirit in it, and never missed being present all these years on Decoration day except once when his train was delayed.

The body arrived in Tingley Wednesday evening and funeral services were held Thursday morning at the Church of Christ, conducted by Rev. Ross WILLIAMS, of Mount Ayr. Interment was made in the Tingley cemetery by the side of his wife, and the American Legion had charge of this service.

As a mark of respect to Mr. McGUGIN, flags were displayed by the business houses during the time of the funeral.

NOTE: Malissa A. (CRITCHFIELD), wife of Frank McGUGIN, was born on June 5, 1935 and died December 25, 1915, at the age of 70 years, 6 months and 20 days. Daniel Earle McGUGIN (1879-1936), son of Malissa A. (CRITCHFIELD) and Frank McGUGIN, was the Hall of Fame Football coach of Vandervilt University.
