OBITUARY - MRS. GRACE MAHAN

Loretta Grace GORMAN, daughter of Barnard and Nancy (FLEMING) GORMAN, was born April 23, 1878, near Kellerton, Iowa, and passed away November 22, 1961, at Mount Ayr, at the age of 83 years, six months and 29 days.

On May 17, 1905, she was united in marriage to Odis McCULLOUGH, and to this union was born one daughter, Madge. They made their home on a farm west of Kellerton until her husband was fatally-injured in a train accident on September 16, 1917.

On January 20, 1926, she was married to Thomas J, MAHAN, of Mount Ayr, and she resided here the rest of her lifetime. He preceded her in death on January 9, 1933.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Byron GORMAN, and a sister, Bertie BASSETT.

During her early married life, she and her husband established a Christian home and were members of the Christian Church in Kellerton. When Mrs. MAHAN became a resident of Mount Ayr, she transferred her membership to the First Christian Church. Her daily life exemplified the teachings of the Bible. For several years she had spent much of her time in the home of her daughter, but always maintained an active interest in her own home and flower garden. She was a Past Noble Grand of the Mount Ayr Rebekah Lodge. "Aunt Grace," as she was affectionately called by many who loved her, always remained young in spirit. She bore her suffering patiently and was grateful to those who lovingly cared for her.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Madge BROWN, and son-in-law, LeRoy BROWN, of Lamoni: three grandchildren, Roger O. Brown, of Torrance, Calif.; Mrs. Sharon Cooper, of Centerville, and Larry L. BROWN, of Lamoni; three great-grandchildren, Ronda, Perry and Roger D. BROWN, of Torrance; James MAHAN, a stepson, and Catherine MAHAN, a daughter-in-law, of Mount Ayr, and their family - Dorothy CASKEY, of Sikeston, Mo.: Gertrude BAKER, of Grand River, and Bettye COATES and Jimmy MAHAN, of Mount Ayr; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Catherine BELLAMY, of Council Bluffs, and her daughters, a half-sister, Mrs. Henry MILLER, of Lamoni; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Services were held November 25, from the Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Howard O. WAKELIN officiating. Mrs. Robert FISHER and Mrs. W. B. CUNNING sang, accompanied at the organ by Anna HARTMAN. In charge of the flowers were Mrs. Earl DUGAN, Mrs. Howard STONE, Mrs. Charles GORMAN and Mrs. Darrel WILCOXSON. Casket bearers were Earl DUGAN, Leo STUCK, Darrel WILCOXSON, Charles GORMAN, Dick BARNES and Wally HOFFMAN. The final resting place was Maple Row Cemetery at Kellerton.

Out-of-town relatives in attendance at the services were Mrs. Catherine BELLAMY, Council Bluffs; Dr. and Mrs. Dick COOPER, Centerville: Mr. and Mrs. Henry PALMATEER, Creston, Neb.; Mrs. Oscar BELKNAP, Malvern; Mrs. Joe Hamling, Omaha, Neb,; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd GORMAN, Joliet, Ill.; Mrs. Elmer ELLINGSON, Cedar Falls; Henry MILLER, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil LITTLE and Mrs. Alice MIDGORDEN, Lamoni, and Mr. and Mrs. Keith BAKER, Deanna and Monte, Grand River.
